A collaboration between builder and designer

At Ethos Interiors, we have the privilege of working with a wide variety of clients. Each project brings with it a fresh canvas of different desires, dreams, and design goals. It’s a special kind of privilege when we get to partner with the very builders who construct these dreams to design their own homes. These collaborations are unique as they allow us to dive into the intricacies of a builder’s vision, shaped by their experiences and expertise in construction.

THE DESIGN VISION

This was the exact journey with Kiall and Yael from Franzmann Constructions when they wanted to create Orana House. They had meticulously pondered over each aspect of their upcoming home and approached us to integrate their diverse design inspirations and weave their varied inspirations into a unified design story. Guiding the design process of a house with a variety of influences is no easy feat, but the collaborative process enabled a cohesive vision to be created. Kiall and Yael wanted to create a home that blended a homage to the traditional Queenslander of the area, with elements of Spanish mission architectural features and some fun, fresh elements of Palm Springs style.

COMBINING STYLES

The house was designed with local draftsman Nathan from ‘The Design House’ to harmoniously resonate with the suburb’s heritage-infused homes. Blending the traditional charm of a Queenslander with the clean lines and arches of a more contemporary style. This harmony was evident with a street-facing façade that featured the elegance of a gabled roof, majestic double-level front verandahs, gracefully curved arches, and the delicate charm of refurbished casement windows – salvaged from the original home that once stood there.

To breathe life into this home, we chose a soft wall colour through-out, coupled with warm, earthy hues that invoked the serene charm of Spanish aesthetics. The occasional dash of timber and pops of pink add some Palm Springs flair.

AWARD-WINNING HOME

At Ethos Interiors, our greatest reward is seeing a house transformed into a home; a place that our clients are not just comfortable in, but immensely proud of. With Orana House, the gratification was doubled, for the builder was the client. Earlier this month we were proud to see that ‘Orana House’ clinched not one, but two prestigious accolades at the NQ Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards 2023: ‘Best Individual Home from $500,000 to $750,000’ and the esteemed ‘President’s Award’, recognizing the outstanding quality and craftsmanship of Orana House.
