It’s always a pleasure working with Townsend Constructions, but designing their own office felt particularly rewarding. This Townsville office interior design project gave us the chance to transform a very basic warehouse in Hyde Park into something with real personality and warmth.

The brief was to reflect their style, which is grounded in classic Queenslanders, while also pushing into something more expressive. We took inspiration from British Colonial interiors, using natural timbers, strong colour and detailed features to create a space that feels both familiar and refined.

The entry sets the tone. A curved Tasmanian oak reception desk sits in front of a bold blue and white Spanish tile floor. The ceiling void above is fitted with three large rattan pendants that bring a relaxed but intentional presence to the space.

Upstairs, the mood shifts slightly. Tongue & Groove timber flooring runs throughout the open-plan breakout area, paired with wainscoting for a sense of softness and rhythm. The kitchen features a clean white profile, but the real statement is underfoot – pink and cream checkerboard stone that adds a subtle touch of playfulness.

The boardroom might be our favourite space. It’s washed in soft blue from floor to ceiling, with ribbed panelling at one end and a coffered ceiling framed with rafters. A single pendant light grounds the centre of the room.

Across the whole office, the focus was on using honest materials and clever detailing – from panelling to stair features – to turn a functional space into one that reflects the care and quality Townsend are known for. It’s a working space, yes, but it also feels like somewhere you want to spend time.
